Mr. Magoo is a 1997 live-action comedy film based on the original cartoon of the same name. The film was produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and originally released to movie theaters in 1997. It starred Leslie Nielsen as the title character. It was produced by Ben Myron and was the first English language film made by Hong Kong director, Stanley Tong. This motion picture was shot in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil and Vancouver, Canada. Fan reaction to Mr. Magoo was mostly positive, but critical and audience reactions were not as favorable.

Plot

Mr. Quincy Magoo (Leslie Nielsen) is an eccentric millionaire with very bad eyesight who refuses to use eyeglasses and therefore always gets into trouble. During a museum robbery he accidentally gets a priceless gem called the Star of Kuristan, and begins to trace the way for the arch-criminals whose idea was to steal the gem - Austin Cloquet (Malcolm McDowell) and Ortega "The Piranha" Peru (Miguel Ferrer), while two federal agents Stupak (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Anders (Ernie Hudson) lead the manhunt for Mr. Magoo himself.

Reception

The film gained mostly negative reviews with a 4% on the Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the low reviews from critics, the film was a box office success making $28.8 million against a $10 million budget. It also had a more positive reaction among fans of the original cartoon.
